~The Hobbit~

Posted in Uncategorized by ruby on the May 17, 2006

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit hole, and that means comfort. . .

It was quite a beautiful hobbit hole, it had the most beautiful photos of family and friends and also paintings that showed a story if you looked at them long enough along the passage way in to the house. If you went in far enough then you would have got to the lounge it had very comfortable chairs and on the table in the middle of the room the hobbit had a beautiful arrangement of flowers, what type I don’t know but they were all sorts of colours and they smelt divine.

His kitchen was as large as any room in the whole house. This is were he spent most of his time because he could see the whole hobbit village and it had the smells of all the finest herbs, he loved to cook in there and he loved his cellars to be honest with you he loved to cook and entertain guests. His house had extra rooms for hobbits to stay and each room was just as grand as any room.

The hobbit of this wonderful house lived in a little hobbit village, his name was Bilbo Baggins. This hobbit loved nothing more than sitting out side on lovely days blowing smoke rings and reading the paper.

Today bilbo thought that it was such a lovely day that he would sit on his porch on the lovely outside table set (that he got from his great-great grandfather) and have breakfast and morning tea with a few servings of cake or maybe a pie if he felt like it.

*MY COUNTRY* (poem)

Posted in Uncategorized by ruby on the May 17, 2006

I love my home Australia
A land of little rain
 Beaches lined with forests
And the wide spacious plains
I love to see the mountains
And the forests also to but it’s
Because I see it every day
That I’ve learnt to adore the view

My home town is Melbourne
It’s a busy “little” place
Its barmy warm summer nights
The busy streets and city lights
The drought in the county over the summer time
 The monsoonal rain up north
It’s our Australian land for you
Don’t you want to love it to?

It not as beautiful as it was
The forests are slowly going
The beach is not so clean
You have those careless people
That chuck rubbish any where
The feral animals are killing off the
Animals 1 by1
And we don’t know what to do

This county is in our hands
We have to take care of it
Its beautiful ocean and beaches,
Forests and trees
The desert and the native creatures
It’s ours to look after and not to wreck
For our children’s children would want landscape
To look at instead of a brick wall.

~Heroes~

Posted in Uncategorized by ruby on the May 17, 2006

What is a hero?

I think a hero is some one that doesn’t need to have super powers it could be someone that found a cure to diseases or a police office, fireman, nurse or a doctor that are just doing there job. Even kids can be heroes by making someone feel special or happy. (But ones that do have powers on TV shows or movies are good to watch)

Some heroes are:

Harry Potter: a teenage hero he puts others before him self. He has powers that come from a wand and not things like super strength and stuff like that. He is still a hero even if he doesn’t want to be. He doesn’t just fight he solves mystery’s and helps people he just want’s to be him self and not to be known from surviving an evil curse.

Richard Moser and Rex (the dog)!!: there on Inspector Rex a German show but they don’t have super powers. Richard is a cop and rex is his crime solving canine’s, they both help each other to save people and get the bad guys. But in the end all good guys come to an end and Richard gets shot on the job and that’s how the story ends but then they get a new guy and rex just isn’t the same dog because he misses Richard.

The Incredible’s are a family of heroes Mr incredible the dad he has super strength, Elastic girl the mum she has super stretch, violet can go invisible and do for fields, Dash has super speed and Jack-Jack can change his form.

So what this super family does is they save the world and people/ family they also have some help from a friend called freeze zone and he can freeze things.

Violet is one of those super heroes that doesn’t want to be a super hero but is. By the end of the story she is happy to help the family save the world.

Then you have the usual super heroes the one you’ve all herded of like Batman, Superman, Spiderman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that save the day and you all know they do.

That’s most of the main super heroes I know from movies and TV but I would be here forever trying to name them all.

~My book report!!!~

Posted in Uncategorized by ruby on the March 7, 2006

In English we had to do a speech on our favourite book.

The book I chose is called Looking for Alibrandi. This book is all about Josephine’s life and how she’s grown up different because she has an Italia background. The author of the book is Melina Marchetta. She has also written another book called Saving Francesca she might have written other books but I haven’t heard of them. Melina Marchetta has an Italian background and she was born in 1965. She is currently living in Sydney with her family. She’s currently attending university and Looking for Alibrandi was her first book. This book is about a girl called Josephine Alibrandi an intelligent 17 year old at her final year at a wealth catholic school. This is the year Josephine’s farther comes back into her life, the year she gets a very complicated relationship, the year she discovers the secrets of her family’s past and the year she sets herself free. There is no real main character except for Josephine Alibrandi. There are a lot of other characters and they all get an even part in the so I’ll only name a few: Christener her mum, Michael Andretti her father, Nonna Kaita her nanna, John Barton a really good friend, Jacob Coote her boy friend and her 3 best friends Anna, Lee and Sera. The story is set in a suburb 10 minute’s away from the Sydney harbour. (It’s set out from real places in Australia) the suburbs name is Glebe and it’s close to the beach. From reading the blurb it sounded really girly but it wasn’t it had funny bits, sad bits, boring bits and it had its own style just like a good book should. I think the book was how Melina Marchetta felt it should feel and sound like to the readers. I liked this book because it is different to a lot of books that I have read. It was a really good book for teenaged girls and that’s why I think I liked it so much and also because it had real life things that happen to some teens. I felt the Author wasn’t scared to say how she wanted the book to turn out because it had feeling and depth to the story. (She also put a bit of swearing in it) I think this book is more for girls 13 and up but a few guys might like it. By Ruby Curtis 8b

*Juggling With Mandarins*

Posted in Uncategorized by ruby on the March 5, 2006

This term in English we did juggling with mandarins.

In this book there are issues that manly concerns Pip and what his life is like. Some of the issues that the book deals with are kids starting to get older, fights with family and friends, losing friends and gaining new ones, winning and losing and things every kid deals with.

I liked the whole book because it was different to what I have read because I manly read adventure, action, surprising and funny types of books. I was surprised to find out how the book ended. I really understood the book because it seemed like a really life story.

My favourite character is Bettie she seems like a real person and once you got to know her she was funny, nice and different to most story characters.

I don’t think the ending regarding Pip and Katie would have been any different you could just tell something like that would happen.

I think the book is called Juggling with mandarins because Pips life is like learning to juggle and once you’ve got it its easy.
